My journey so far
My name is Steven James Tunney, I’m a self taught mixed media painter from Manchester UK, working primarily with oils and acrylic on canvas and paper.
My creative journey in painting began in 2011. I had a keen interest in photography but after losing my camera at the Glastonbury festival in 2010, I turned to painting for the first time in my life. Initially this was just to fill a void until I could replace my camera, but creating that first painting was like some kind of awakening process and it rapidly progressed from being a temporary hobby to a life changing passion for creating art.
Through colourful abstract forms often punctuated with handwritten/scrawled text and childlike figurative lines, my inspiration is to evoke emotions in the viewer with regards to the complex yet delicate state of our world and the vulnerability of the human condition.
Testimonials of my work have noted that it often crosses a terrain both tender and abrasive, at times very raw but always with a sense of hope and healing. My heart and soul are deeply invested in every piece, and I regard these observations with heart felt appreciation.
I am a music lover and this plays a huge part in my creative process, I don’t think I could actually do it without the influence of music.
In 2020 I decided to take a giant leap and become a full time artist.
Thank you so much for being here and taking a look at my work and if anything resonates with you, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
The journey continues….finding beauty in the mess,
Love and light…stay free, Steven x
